February 2023 Collaborator: Other Purposes

Through prayer, relationship-building and sharing of resources, the Wheaton Franciscans collaborate with organizations whose mission and priorities are similar to ours. We focus primarily on the following areas: care of creation; health and dental in underserved areas; refugees and immigrants; women and children in vulnerable situations; and other purposes that align with our values. We are currently connected to nearly 100 organizations.

Timor Leste Indonesia Mission

Because of the political turmoil and civil unrest in Timor Leste in the late 90s of the 20th century and the beginning of 21st century, poverty has been the main problem in the country as well as the early death of many people. Therefore, a lot of people, especially children have needed shelter, food, and care. The Sisters from the Timor Leste Indonesia Mission began welcoming children into their community giving them protection, education, and care. In 2000, the Sisters officially opened the orphanage named: Orfanato St. Clara.  At the beginning there were seventeen children between the ages of six and twelve and two twenty-three-year-old college students. The number of children in the orphanage currently is twenty-four. The orphanage provides shelter, education, and spiritual guidance to prepare these children for independent lives in the future.

For it is in giving that we receive.
