Justice

Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) concerns have always been part of the Wheaton Franciscan spirit. This commitment to justice, peace, and care of creation has been demonstrated through our ministries, decisions, and actions that impact systemic sources of injustice.

Love lifts spirits, brings a sparkle to the eye, gives health and life, and blessing.

Sirach 34:17

Interconnectedness

Inspired by our foundress, Mother Clara Pfaender, our JPIC efforts explore the most critical justice issues of our time, especially those that affect the interconnectedness of social and environmental challenges, and work to promote awareness, encourage reflection, and initiate appropriate responses and calls to action.

“We have to realize that a true ecological approach always becomes a social approach; it must integrate questions of justice in debates on the environment, so as to hear both the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor.”

Pope Francis, Laudato Si #49

Pope Francis invites us to view our work for justice and peace as integrally related to our ministry on behalf of the planet: “… genuine care for our own lives and our relationships with nature are inseparable from fraternity, justice, and faithfulness to others.”  (Laudato Si, #70)
