Celebrating 70 Years of Religious Life

What attracted you to the Wheaton Franciscans?
“When I was a senior in high school, I felt the call to religious life. I always wanted to be a nurse and at that time I was working at St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri as an aide. I was attracted because the Sisters I knew were happy in their life. I came to this community because I knew there was the possibility of being a registered nurse.”
And so, in 1954, Sister Maureen entered religious life and began her journey in the healthcare ministry. She attended the Marquette College of Nursing, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, and additionally attended the Marquette University Graduate School of Education, earning her Masters.
From 1961 through 1988, Sister Maureen followed her ministry as a nurse in various hospitals both in Wisconsin and Missouri. Then from 1989-2006 she brought her skills to the House of Formation in Santarem Brazil. When asked which ministry was her favorite, Sister Maureen replied that she liked them all.
Happy 70th Jubilee, Sister Maureen! Your commitment to the nursing ministry is a true testament to your faith and love for God.
