May 2024 Collaborator: Care of Creation

Through prayer, relationship-building and sharing of resources, the Wheaton Franciscans collaborate with organizations whose mission and priorities are similar to ours. We focus primarily on the following areas: care of creation; health and dental in underserved areas; refugees and immigrants; women and children in vulnerable situations; and other purposes that align with our values. We are currently connected to nearly 100 organizations.

Friends of San Lucas

San Lucas Toliman, Guatemala

Friends of San Lucas is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that supports development in San Lucas Tolimán and the surrounding communities in Guatemala. Currently, about 40,000 people live in the area, 20,000 in San Lucas and 20,000 in the surrounding communities. 90% of the population is indigenous Maya. Due to the complex history of land ownership in San Lucas, there is a lack of water infrastructure. Water access and wastewater disposal/treatment are a pressing need for the local communities. Friends of San Lucas works to provide dependable water for these communities and to create sustainable water delivery infrastructure, repair of current systems, and development of new delivery systems.

For it is in giving that we receive.
