December 2023 Collaborator: Other Purposes

Through prayer, relationship-building and sharing of resources, the Wheaton Franciscans collaborate with organizations whose mission and priorities are similar to ours. We focus primarily on the following areas: care of creation; health and dental in underserved areas; refugees and immigrants; women and children in vulnerable situations; and other purposes that align with our values. We are currently connected to nearly 100 organizations.

House of Hope

Waterloo, IA

For nearly 25 years, the House of Hope’s mission has been to help single moms facing homelessness achieve self-sufficiency. The mission expanded in 2018 to also assist young women aging out of foster care achieve similar goals. Throughout the years, House of Hope has helped hundreds of single mothers gain the skills needed to support their children independently. The program allows families to live in an apartment within the House of Hope while the mothers work or go to school full time, attend life skills classes and weekly meet with the case manager to develop and review progress towards personal goals. Ultimately, women are empowered to overcome their situation and gain the skills needed to live self-sufficiently.

For it is in giving that we receive.
