October 2022 Collaborator: Refugees & Immigrants

Through prayer, relationship-building and sharing of resources, the Wheaton Franciscans collaborate with organizations whose mission and priorities are similar to ours. We focus primarily on the following areas: care of creation; health and dental in underserved areas; refugees and immigrants; women and children in vulnerable situations; and other purposes that align with our values. We are currently connected to nearly 100 organizations.

Bethany House of Hospitality

Chicago, IL

Bethany House of Hospitality serves young refugee/immigrant women who are released from youth detention centers when they reach the age of 18 years and need a place to stay so they will not automatically be sent to an adult detention facility (jail!). Since its opening in October 2017, Bethany House has welcomed more than 72 young women. They come from 18 countries in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and South and Central America. The goal of Bethany House of Hospitality is to provide the needed support for unaccompanied female minor Asylum Seekers when they turn 18. The young women are given educational, medical, psychological, spiritual, and legal assistance in order to help them achieve asylum status. This support provides a possible path to independent living and citizenship.

For it is in giving that we receive.
