October 2022 Collaborator: Care of Creation

Through prayer, relationship-building and sharing of resources, the Wheaton Franciscans collaborate with organizations whose mission and priorities are similar to ours. We focus primarily on the following areas: care of creation; health and dental in underserved areas; refugees and immigrants; women and children in vulnerable situations; and other purposes that align with our values. We are currently connected to nearly 100 organizations.

Poor Household of God: OIKOS PTOCHOS TOU THEOU Village Gardening and Greenhouse Project

Oikos Village, Philippines

Poor Household of God Sisters are a Franciscan Community in the Philippines. They have been organizing and living with the poor in the Oikos Community for over 12 years. Oikos Village, where the project is located, is home to 16 poor families. The Poor Household of God Sisters developed a gardening project which evolved to full-time production of lettuce using a combination of hydroponics and traditional organic farming methods. The benefits to the families in the village and surrounding poor neighbors include training in this livelihood, experience in using light machinery for gardening, and learning to care for the nature.

For it is in giving that we receive.

St. Francis of Assisi
