Community Response to the Tragic Events in Our Nations Capitol

Pray for Peace and Reconciliation

In light of the tragic events of January 6 in our nation’s Capitol, The Wheaton Franciscans invite you to join us in prayer for a peaceful transition of power and for healing and reconciliation for all people in our nation. Our Franciscan tradition calls us to reflect on a God of nonviolent and compassionate love. Let us work to cultivate peace in our hearts that we might be a “Presence of peace and reconciliation” in our communities and our nation.

Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.” (John 14:27) May the Christ also give us light to guide our way, strength for the hard work ahead, and hope that there is brighter tomorrow awaiting us.

Our Vision Prayer

With Brother Francis, Sister Clare, and Mother Clara,
we humbly pray
to be a blessing in the heart of the world.
O Holy Mystery,
Open our eyes to recognize that All are One.
Open our ears to hear the cry of Earth,
our common home.
Open our minds to learn from Creation’s diversity.
Open our hearts to be a Presence
of peace and reconciliation.
Open our hands to serve in Love,
meeting the needs of our time.
Open our lives to engage contemplatively
the emerging Future.
In the Spirit of St. Clare:
What we hold, may we always hold,
What we do, may we always do
        and never abandon.
Amen.
