Celebrating Sister Theresa Langfield’s 70th Jubilee

For seven decades, Sister Theresa has lived her Franciscan calling with deep faith, courage, and compassion. Drawn to religious life through the example of her family, the sisters who taught her, and the witness of her own relatives in religious life, she entered the Wheaton Franciscans in 1956 and professed final vows in 1964.

She describes her vocation as an attraction she could never silence and remains deeply grateful for the richness and joy of Franciscan life.

Throughout her ministry, Sister Theresa served in education, retreat and youth ministry, leadership, and housing outreach. She especially treasures her years at The Bridge Communication Center, where she experienced the creative and evolving ministries of the late 1960s, and her pioneering work in shelter ministries through Francis Heights and Clare Gardens in Denver. There, she helped make the Community’s vision of compassionate and affordable housing a reality for countless individuals and families.

“The Bridge Ministry was a touchstone time in my ministry– the 1960’s movement from the predictable to the creative and cutting edge ministry– addressing changing needs of the times– a growthful and rich time.”

Now celebrating her 70th Jubilee, Sister Theresa is remembered as a woman of deeply rooted faith and prayer who meets others with love and care. Whether through ministry, leadership, or quiet accompaniment, she has continued to trust God’s guidance, take courageous risks, and serve with a generous heart.

“I am grateful for the richness and joy that this life has been.”
