After completing the Franciscan Way of Life and a period of discernment, nine individuals were warmly received into the Wheaton Franciscan community as Covenant Companions (CCs) on April 25, 2026. Proclaiming their personal commitments were Marjorie (Marj) Collette, Beverly (Bev) DeJovine, Eric George, Janet George, Eileen Goodin, Barb Krzystofiak, Cathy Mason, Margaret (Margie) Tarpey, and Melanie (Mel) Teska.

The day began with a moving liturgy at Our Lady of the Angels Chapel, attended by family members and friends of the incoming covenant companions as well as sisters, current CCs, and members of the faith community. Each of the new covenant companions participated in the Mass in a special way, from readers and gift bearers to Eucharistic Ministers, and by singing a soulful rendition of We Can Be Kind as the Communion meditation.
The incoming covenant companions read aloud their personal call to the covenant way of life as Wheaton Franciscans. Their statements were profoundly moving, touching upon spiritual growth, helping the marginalized, respecting Mother Earth, and “being a gentle person of peace.” All Wheaton Franciscan Sisters and covenant companions stood and proclaimed their commitment to share prayer, spiritual journeys, companionship, and loving support with the new CCs. The ceremony concluded as they signed their covenants and received their community pins and Way of Life Covenant Companionship books.
The jubilant atmosphere continued during a noon reception where attendees congratulated and welcomed the newest members of our community. Eric George shared this thought about his commitment decision:
“I am choosing to become a covenant companion as a way to grow in service and to remain rooted in a haven for learning, healing, and ongoing conversion.”
