Honoring Sister Margaret Grempka’s 65th Jubilee

We joyfully celebrate Sister Margaret Grempka on her 65th Jubilee—a remarkable milestone in a life dedicated to service and community as a Wheaton Franciscan.
A native of Chicago, Sister Margaret entered religious life in 1961 and made her final vows in 1968. Drawn to the Wheaton Franciscans during a time of renewal in the Church, she found in them a spirit of openness, communal living, and a deep commitment to growth—qualities that have guided her journey ever since.
“Mother Clara has become a deep and abiding inspiration for me—as have my sisters who incarnate her values now.”
Sister Margaret’s ministry has spanned education, leadership, finance, international mission, pastoral care, and spiritual discernment. Whether teaching, serving in provincial leadership, or accompanying others through life’s transitions, she has embodied the Franciscan values of compassion, trust, and shared purpose.
Her international experiences, especially in Brazil, Mexico, and Indonesia, deepened her understanding of global solidarity and the spiritual wisdom of the poor. She describes being Provincial and navigating personal health challenges, including cancer, as profound encounters with God’s love and the Paschal Mystery.
“I am grateful for the many ways I’ve been blessed and gifted.”
Sister Margaret finds joy in simple things—walking, reading, and meaningful conversation. When asked how she hopes to be remembered, she writes:
“As a loving presence, a blessing… as one who lived with grace in the Mystery of life as an instrument of God’s healing love; who saw God in all things and helped others to do the same.”
With gratitude and love, we honor Sister Margaret’s 65 years of faithful witness. Her life continues to inspire and bless the community she serves.
