The Covenant Companions (CCs) enjoyed a day of creative exploration and prayer on March 22, 2025, focused on questions of who or what companions us on our journey. The retreat was also an opportunity for CCs to reflect on their ongoing covenant with the Wheaton Franciscans.

The day began with an open “treasure box” that was passed around the circle. Each CC silently placed their hopes and intentions inside the box as a sign of community strength and trust. Then Sr. Alice led the group through a series of Old and New Testament readings, letters and blessings from St. Francis and St. Clare, and key excerpts from the founding constitution from Mother Clara.
CCs shared about which messages resonated in their lives, followed by a quiet period for reflection and journaling. Individuals explored questions about how God companions us, what attracts us to true companions in our life, the variety of people and pets who come into our lives, and our gratitude to be able to companion others and be companioned. “It was good to reflect on our companions who are faithful, responsive, and speak truth to us,” explained CC Marilyn Ladone.
After a relaxing lunch, the CCs convened in small groups to share their thoughts on the morning’s reflection questions as they looked at companioning in a refreshing light. CC John Niemet summarized, “I certainly benefited from the care taken by Sr. Alice to make the day run so smoothly. Her presentation harvested many enriching outcomes for all!”
