Weavings is a monthly reflection that is the collective effort of the Wheaton Franciscan Covenant Companions and Sisters to provide spiritual nourishment that helps us feel God’s presence in daily living and invite an openness to God.
SOLITUDE INCARNATES THE CHRIST
by Sister Georgene L. Wilson, OSF, D. Min.
Clare of Assisi:
A woman of inclusion rather than cloister.
San Damiano would breathe the way of creation:
Sacred space and matter made beautiful
To shine forth the Christ!
All were invited into this enclosure:
The ever-expanding circle of Divinity’s extravagant love.
Clare, like Wisdom, instructed the ladies,
“Bake the bread.
Prepare the wine.
Set the table.”
She trusted there always to be enough:
Fruit of her faithfulness to
The Privilege of Poverty.
“I am abundantly rich in kinship.
Who needs more
When all creation is guest at the daily feast?”
She blessed the bread!
“Thy Kin-dom come!”
