Gotta Dance
by Carol Sejda, Covenant Companion
What is there about certain music and beats that make me want to move my feet, wave my arms and just MOVE? Perhaps I can find an answer in scripture. Psalm 149: 3: “Let them praise His name in dance…. For the Lord takes delight in His people.” And I can always relate to Ecclesiastes 3: 1,4: “There is an appointed time for everything… A time to mourn, and a time to dance.”
Early memories flood back. As a child, I clearly recall annoying older adult guests at family wedding celebrations by running and dancing goofily in my good finery. I remember dancing at home with my sister, many times first thing in the morning, unable to keep still when we heard the “Beer Barrel Polka” or some other polka or top ten hit. A band or a decent DJ and even today my sister and I again succumb to “dance fever”! We move in whatever way we can. Our hopping and jumping days may be over, but we can shuffle and laugh. I hope that when we can no longer pinwheel our arms we will clap.
May we all accept the Divine invitation to let rhythmic music play and let twitching muscles lead us to rejoice in our blessings and give thanks to God as best we can through movement and dance. So, grab a partner and dance or join a circle and move or stand and sway or sit and tap or lie and hum, but allow the joy to seep out of your pores and be grateful!
I FIIND GREAT RELEIF FROM WORRY BY DANCING. IT CAN BE JUST IN MY APARTMENT .
OTHER PEOPLE ARE NOT NECESSARY, BUT IT IS NICE TO HAVE MUSIC PROGRAMS AND

Great Article. Makes me want to get up and dance!
I so enjoyed your reflection, Carol, “Gotta Dance”!! It looks like you are doing a rendition to the Watusi!! Remember all those crazy dances in the 60w and 70s? Last year at at wedding, my nephew pulled me up to dance…it was a fast one! I lasted 2 glorious minutes and begged to sit down…I continue to dance in my heart!! And I believe Jesus danced at the wedding at Cana!!
Again, thank you!
