Celebrating 60 Years of Religious Life

In 1964, Sister Beatrice entered religious life, and in 1974 transferred into the Wheaton Franciscan Community. She was attracted to our Community’s “faith-filled women dedicated to Peace with Justice.” Born and educated in Chicago, Sister Beatrice earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from the city’s University of Illinois, College of Medicine. In addition, she spent her residency at Rush-Presbyterian in Chicago, focused on Internal Medicine.

Her ministry service in healthcare continued with a Hematology-Oncology Fellowship at Rush, followed by her favorite ministry as

Medical Director of the Hematology-Oncology Treatment Center in LaPorte, Michigan City, and Gary, IN from 1984 until 2005. During that time, she also served on the US Provincial Council from 1996-2000.

Then in 2008, Sister Beatrice served as the US Provincial Directress through 2012, and in 2013 became and remains Coordinator of the US JPIC (Justice Peace and Integrity of Creation) Office of the Wheaton Franciscans. She also spent 2015-2021 as the JPIC Coordinator for the International Congregation. We celebrate her incredible contributions to healthcare, justice, and peace – congratulations on your Jubilee, Sister Beatrice!

How would you like to be remembered?

I would like to be remembered as a woman who acted justly, loved tenderly, and walked humbly with my God.
