Season of Creation
Prayer Service: Thurs, Sept 1, 2022
On Thursday, September 1, 2022, the Wheaton Franciscans, in collaboration with the Diocese of Joliet Laudato Si’ Ministry, opened the Season of Creation with a prayer service at Our Lady of the Angels Chapel. More than 50 people joined us in the Chapel while many more viewed the service on livestream. Sr. Barb Nelson, IBVM, offered an engaging reflection reminding all of us that we are called to discipleship and, therefore, we are called to care for all of God’s creation. End of Summer Happenings
As Summer came to an end, the Sisters had the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful weather during their Lake Villa outing while the Sacred Red Flint Corn soaked up plenty of sun to grow nice and tall! Sister Dorothy and a few OLA associates also had the chance to grab treats from The Little Red Donut Truck when it made an appearance at St. Francis High School. We truly enjoyed many seasonal blessings during the Summer of 2022!
Farewell Father Phil
On Tuesday, September 6th the Sisters and OLA staff bid farewell to Fr. Phil Horrigan while our wider Faith Community got that chance to say their goodbyes at a reception on August 21st. For the past 5 years, Father Phil has served the Wheaton Franciscans as our Sacramental Minister and has now returned home to his native Canada. He travels with our gratitude, love, and blessings for his next life adventure!
September 11 Remembrance Ceremony
As we honor this 21st anniversary of September 11, 2001, we remember all who were lost in this tragedy and the ensuing conflicts, including these individuals who once called Wheaton home.
Special Program from City of Wheaton 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony
On Sunday, September 11th, 2022, Sister Melanie Paradis led the opening prayer for the City of Wheaton’s Remembrance Ceremony held in Memorial Park.
Thank you to all of our community partners who helped with today’s September 11 Remembrance Ceremony and to all who attended. It was a moving tribute to the individuals we lost and a beautiful way to remember how our community came together in the face of tragedy. We will always remember.
