This week’s Epiphany reflection is by Covenant Companion Mary Ellen Durbin:
Once again, we encounter the amazing, wonder-filled story of the Epiphany, the story of the Magi—curious seekers looking for something more. Outsiders following stars. They seek directions from Herod, who is threatened. They end up following the star to a humble home, drenched in light, wonder, peace, and holiness…they witness the manifestation of Christ——and in a dream, they are told to go home another way.
Go another way…we have all received that message at some point in our lives. We experience a revelation about ourselves— a shattering of our old ways of thinking. Our lives are changed, we find another path. Maybe we find a whole new way of life, or maybe we just choose to do the next right thing. As we continue to live into the Mystery of God with us—even as the world shakes in war and violence and desecration of the natural world, even when we can’t see the stars because of clouds, we are reminded as people of faith, to live joyfully, humbly as stewards of God’s grace…a grace that is meant for all…a grace that we hold and pass on in our daily ordinary lives, drenched in light, wonder, peace, and holiness.
