Covenant Membership

Since 1983, the Wheaton Franciscan mission has extended a pathway of spiritual growth and mutuality to women and men, through a relationship called Covenant Membership. Covenant members are persons who relate to the charism and philosophy of the Wheaton Franciscans, want to live this mission in their daily lives, in their families, friendships and work life, and seek to publicly identify with the community. Following a period of integration, they prepare a written covenant, an agreement that states their own specific ways of commitment to and participation in the life of the community. They publicly commit themselves to Wheaton Franciscan covenant membership for one, two or three years. This commitment can be renewed. Covenant members have an opportunity to participate in province gatherings, as well as various community activities, and a yearly retreat.

Covenant membership offers mutual benefits to members and to the larger Wheaton Franciscan community. For covenant members, this form of membership supports them in their efforts to live the Gospel as Wheaton Franciscans, as they bond with vowed members and other covenant members, share their talents and gifts, and actively participate in the life and decisions of the community. For the Wheaton Franciscan community, covenant membership extends their presence into areas of daily life, expands their perspective and experience, and enlarges the community's vision and understanding of how to respond to the needs of the times.

If you want to know God more deeply, to live simply, to build community, to grow personally and spiritually as a contemporary woman in God's church, we welcome your interest!
